Sir John Kothalawala College is a public college open to all students in the market town of Kurunegala, Sri Lanka. It was opened on the 16th January 1974 and was formerly known as Bandaranayake Vidyalaya. § ==History== It was declared open on 16 January 1974 in the region covered by the palace of Hon. Bishop Lakdasa De mel. At that time, the Bishop's palace used it as classrooms. At the outset, it was called “Bandaranayake Vidyalaya” and was opened with the collaboration of Hon. Piyadasa Wijesinghe, a former member of the parliament. The main objective for establishment of this school was to avoid the high density of student population and the entrance competition of popular schools, and to provide more opportunities to younger generations from rural communities.〔(【引用サイトリンク】 url =http://www.kothalawala.sch.lk/En/index.php/about-us/history )〕 The college was opened with six teachers and fourteen students.
